Thursday.
Dear Barbara
You did not come again, but the picture 664 came. We are both very much pleased with it and grateful to the soul and the hand that produced it for us. It is deliciously fresh and airy and happy. It is settled now that we go for a month's holiday in Normandy and Brittany starting next Thursday. So I am reading Villemarqu'e9 665 and setting my mind towards Celtic legends, that I may people the land with great shadows when there are no solid Bretons in sight.
Yesterday the two Trollopes 666 dined with us and we had a good deal of pleasant talk, or rather shouting. Also I sat for the last time for my portrait, and Mr. Burton was disappointed to find that you had left town before he had been able to call on you and see certain oil sketches. I gave him your address that he might write to you.
