GE to Barbara [Mme Eugene] Bodichon, [Shottermill], 28 August [1871]
MS: Mr. Philip Leigh-Smith. Hitherto unpublished.
August 28th.
Dearest Barbara
Thanks -- many -- for sending me Bessie's letter. I am heartily rejoiced that she will have a comfortable sum. 355 It is delicious to think that now and then good fortune does come to those who are in need of it.
O what a day you had for the Ludlows! It is very cold here still, but clear and beautiful. The sight of the landscape is a little embittered to me by the thought that you did not see it.
Best regards to the Doctor, and affectionate remembrances to Miss Edwards.
Always thine
Marian.
