'bd past 5 o'clock.
Dear Barbara
Your note, which I suppose was put into the letter-box at our door, has only just been brought up to me. I am vexed, because you will have been waiting and wondering at my rudeness in sending no answer. I could be with you to-morrow at the time you mention, if that would suit you.
Thanks many for the folio of sketches which I have been running through by myself, before enjoying them in a more leisurely way with George.
I hope you have been conjecturing that there must have been some mistake to account for my silence to your note.
Ever yours
M. E. L.
