Monday morning.
My dear Miss Marshall
Mrs. Edward Lewes got a cab shortly after you left, and I am sure you were not to be blamed in the matter -- least of all for staying with us, which was the kindest thing you could do.
I enclosed dear Cara's letter to you yesterday. It is sad -- but how could it be otherwise? There have been very few beings in the world to whom her heart has clung, and the one for whom we can do the most is always the most precious -- as you know better than most people.
