Dear Friend
I congratulate you on your programme -- it is promising. 331
The Prospectives 332 have arrived. But several other books will be necessary for the article on Newman. I do not possess one of his works, and I must have them all by me -- i.e. all the theological ones. I should also have the "Eclipse of Faith," and "Mr. Greyson's Letters" 333 might contribute something.
I shall be too busy till Christmas to write any article for the January number but it will be as well to have the Newman books by me, that I may get the reading done, and the requisite passages marked.
We dined with Mr. and Mrs. Call on Wednesday, and I was very much and agreeably struck with Mr. Call. 334 He has a thoroughly cultured and refined mind -- one of the few men one enjoys listening and talking to. That was my impression from a first interview.
Surely you might make use of such a man's pen, in the dearth of superior writers. I can't help thinking he would be worth enlisting as a contributor. It is true, charming men are far from being always charming writers, but I fancy in this case some of that delicate flavour I detect in the conversation would be found in the written word too.
George unites with me in kind remembrances and good wishes 'e0 propos of your new establishment which we hear of as in prospect.
