The programme is not a bad one, though rather too grave. You are quite right to accept Forster's article. 132 The subject is just the thing now, and I know from Miss Martineau, that he is deeply interested in it and taking pains to collect full information. Miss M. promises that her Irish article 133 shall be of her Number 1 quality. Then the Charity, 134 Chemistry, 135 and Mary Tudor 136 are likely to be good, so that one may set one's heart at rest. If James Martineau declines, 137 I accept.
Lewes's letter was to ask me to review Hippolytus for the Leader, 138 and I have written to say yea. But don't tell. Miss Martineau will write to you soon about Deerbrook and her Irish Letters. 139
The only drawback to my pleasure here is that I am not at all well. Still I keep up bravely and manage to enjoy. If I had been better, I should have written to you, but I have been so weary at night that I could only go to sleep, and night is the only time I have had for writing.
I go to Coventry on Tuesday. I am thankful to hear that Beatrice 140 is better. Love to Mrs. Chapman.
