My dear Sir
I like the present appearance of the title-page better than if it had another line. But if there is any more serious reason than an aesthetic one for inserting the "originally published," let it be inserted by all means. Shouldn't we have "Right of translation reserved" on the back of the title-page? 1039
I give up the motto because it struck you as having been used before, and though I copied it into my note-book when I was re-reading "Amelia" a few months ago, it is one of those obvious quotations which never appear fresh though they may actually be made for the first time.
I shall be curious to know the result of the subscription. There are a few persons to whom I should like a copy of the volumes to be sent, and I enclose a list of them. 1040 Ever, my dear Sir,
