My dear Sir
I am quite contented with the terms you offer me for Silas. The advertisement, I think, should be headed, "New Work by George Eliot." Then, I would simply put "Silas Marner, the Weaver of Raveloe. In 1 volume" -- avoiding the word story. 707
I am very glad to have the first part tested by the reading of your nephew and Mr. Simpson, and to find that it can interest them at all.
If I did not believe that business is the best distraction from personal sorrows, I should feel it painful to write to you about these book affairs. Ever my dear Sir
