My dear Sir
I am sorry to find that you are at Edinburgh on account of family troubles. You have had a large share of that kind of trouble during the years that I have known you.
As to the new edition of my books, I care comparatively little about profiting further by it myself, but I am seriously anxious that the speculation should not prove ultimately an undesirable one for you. Else, I should bitterly regret our arrangement.
Mr. Lewes has broken down sadly again. Languor and dyspepsia beset him. These bodily ailments are the only personal troubles we have in the world, so that perhaps we have less than our share. I think we shall go to the coast again by and by to try good air and zoology as restoratives. It is difficult to know what course to take with these indefinable complaints, especially with a perfectly temperate man, who can make no important changes of regimen.
