My dear Sir
In concession to the suggestion of yourself and Mr. Delane, I have modified the letter, so as to make it milder -- perhaps so as to make it ineffectual like the others.
Now a M.S. of Clerical Scenes by Liggins is being handed about we can no longer consider the matter a joke or believe that only fools will be taken in. The thing will soon come to a pitch that would oblige me publicly to declare myself the author.
I hope you and the Major will find your way to Wandsworth, as soon after to-morrow as possible. To-morrow there is an engagement on foot, 185 but none afterwards.
