Dear Sir
I am very much obliged to you for the kind feeling expressed in your letter forwarded to me by Messrs. Blackwood, and for your wish to give me a token of that feeling by the gift of your poems. 846
Very heavy domestic trouble, owing to the illness of a son who has just returned to us from Africa, 847 will prevent me for some time to come from giving more attention to the present than a grateful acceptance.
I remain, dear Sir
Yours faithfully,
M. E. Lewes.
James Holden, Esq.
