My dear Miss Craig
It happens, for a wonder, that we are going out to-morrow evening, and I cannot bear to let you come in vain. So I send you this word. Perhaps you can change or rather exchange the evening for another.
We agree that the new cover 703 is an improvement. Certainly the first was hideous -- yet Mr. Lewes heard a publisher admiring it. Have you not found that there is always some one who will pick out one's mistakes for laudation?
