My dear Mr. Smith
The power of making presents is the gift of God, but the power of making them felicitously comes by nature, 306 and in this respect you were certainly "heureusement n'e9." I am so much pleased with the possession of the pretty oyster-dish for its own sake -- and quite as much because I like all proofs that you think of me kindly.
I wish you well through the preliminary pangs of producing "the Pall Mall." 307
