My dear Sir
Jeffrey's Life is to be treated in our July number by Mr. Weir, 66 who I believe is well known to you. He proposes to write an article on Scott, Jeffrey, and Chalmers. Mr. Greg contributes an article on another subject. 67 I am not personally acquainted with Weir, but he has been recommended to us as a man of considerable mental power and very diversified attainments. Moreover, he states himself to be familiar with Edinburgh life and Edinburgh literary men. I have no doubt, from the manner in which I have understood him to speak of you, that he will duly value the advantage of being aided by your views and knowledge on the subject of his article.
I am glad to hear that you propose to come to London in May, and that I may therefore hope to have the pleasure of seeing you and Mrs. Combe again. I often think of you, when I want some one to whom I could confess all my difficulties and struggles with my own nature, as the person, among all I have known, who is, as Madame de Stael said of her friend, the most completely '91de son avis'92 -- having a profound faith in his principles and really acting them out.
I am going for a holiday to my friends at Rosehill on Saturday. I am longing to see the budding hedgerows and all the other delights of Spring. With kind regards to Mrs. Combe, I am, my dear Sir,
