My dear Sir
I assure you that the prospect of paying you a visit in October will make the intervening months pass more agreeably to me. But I do not like to hear such poor news of your health, which promises ill for your enjoyment of those months. I hope, however, that your next letter will report more rapid progress.
I thought it best to read to Mr. Chapman those passages in your last letter which referred to his affairs, as I know he wishes to be thoroughly open. I believe he has written to you on the subject, 95 so I need not enter into it further than to say that I think you may rely on his truthfulness.
You said, I believe, that Dr. John Brown had written in the North British. If so, will you be so good as to mention an article by him in that periodical? If he be fixed on as the writer of Mr. Bastard's article, we shall of course be glad that he should have your exposition of that gentleman's views.
