April 17. 75.
Dear Mr. Locker
I have a most agreeable and respectful remembrance of Miss Anna Swanwick 234 and should find any incidental meeting with her pleasant. But, as you divine from my late explanation, I am obliged to restrict my reception of visits, and I shall be grateful to you if you will save me from the need to say so directly to Miss Swanwick.
I hope to hear that Mrs. Locker is safely through the troublous introduction to a new happiness. 235
Yours very sincerely
M. E. Lewes.
