Foleshill, Wednesday.
Revd and dear Sir,
I have received your valuable books quite safely and have already enjoyed some of their contents. I need not say how much I value such proofs of your kindness. I have copied Guizot's Address, but I return you the same rough papers that you had before because they may be bent and soiled at pleasure. I will not worry you with long letters, but I wish to express fully what I think I omitted to say in reply to a question of yours. If we should be so happy as to get one of Vinet's works published I beg you to understand that I consider myself your translator and the publication as yours, and that my compensation will be any good that may be effected by the work, and the pleasure of being linked to your remembrance.
I hope you will have a pleasant season of rest at Christmas and that I shall see you looking well before a very long interval has elapsed: some good deed to be done in this neighbourhood will draw you hither and remind you of me. Believe me, Revd and dear Sir,
