Dearest Eleanor
The blessing in your tender note was much needed. Your heart inspired you with just the right words to help me.
The inward struggle, the doubt, the final word -- all has been a trial, and I have often wished that my life had ended a year ago. But now what remains of it must have a new consecration in gratitude for the miracle of his love. I am hoping that I shall not take anything from all of you who have been nearest to him, but that I shall bring you an added love that you will not despise in union with his.
I am still agitated -- terrified, perhaps because I am not well. Your dear letter kept by me is a little lamp in the dimness.
I write to Florence as well as to you because she joined you in the blessing.
Yours lovingly
