Dear Friend
I was delighted to have your letter, which came when we were at dinner. We shall be very happy to do the dissipation of dining with you (at 6) and coming home by a late train, after the music. I wish we could meet in the gardens beforehand but as that does not seem practicable we will give it up, contenting ourselves with the prospect of the evening.
I hope Sara received my scolding letter on Friday. I always like to work myself up into a state of vexation with people I care for because then they are sure to do something which proves that they are irreproachable. And so it turned out, for her note, with the pamphlet, came to me when my letter was being delivered at Ivy Cottage. Tell her, I read the pamphlet through last night and this morning, with edification.
