The works on Mills etc. are for Mr. Noel's inspection. If he should not want any of them, you or he can return them when you come to London.
I don't know how long Miss Bremer will stay, but you need not wish to see her. She is to me a repulsive person, equally unprepossessing to eye and ear. I never saw a person of her years who appealed less to my purely instinctive veneration. I have to reflect every time I look at her that she is really Fred[rik]a Bremer.
Fox is to write the article on the Suffrage, 1020 and we are going to try Carlyle for the Peerage, 1021 Ward refusing, on the ground that he thinks the improvement of the physical condition of the people so all-important that he must give all his energies to that. Ward, you know, is the man of the Sewers. 1022 He says "Life is a bad business, but we must make the best of it" -- to which philosophy I say Amen.
Dr. Hodgson is gone, 1023 and all the fun with him. He found in the Minutes of Council on Education the following rhymes, used as copies in one of the schools: God made bees, Bees make honey; God made man, Man makes money;
God made Satan, Satan made sin; God made a place To put Satan in.
Kate Martineau 1024 has just been here. She inquires with great interest about Cara. Love to this last and to Sara. Kind thoughts and wishes to all.
I was introduced to Lewes the other day in Jeff's shop -- a sort of miniature Mirabeau in appearance. 1025
