Dear Friend
Will you be so kind as to tell me in a few words, what are your objections to Mr. Chapman's letter to Mr. Combe? Mr. Chapman and I differ in our opinions -- or rather feelings -- on this subject, and I should be glad to check my own judgment by that of a third person.
I will ask Mr. Atkinson more about Lady Monson. 262 All I know of her at present is that she gives literary soir'e9es. I am very glad to hear that Miss Lynn has a kind friend in her. I am sure she needs friends, and I begin to feel for other people's wants and sorrows a little more than I used to do. Heaven help us! said the old religions -- the new one, from its very lack of that faith, will teach us all the more to help one another.
I am so sorry to hear that Cara has been having toothache again. Love to her and to Sara. Tell the latter she is as good as a group of spice islands to me -- she wafts the pleasantest influences even from a distance. I will write to her to-morrow, if possible.
Couldn't "Jane" 263 tell you what ribbons will be worn this spring?
