Dear Friend
I am going to write an article for Frazer 589 which will require me to have at hand for reference my dear old friends, Walter Scott's novels, and we can get no other edition from the library than the 25 or 48 volumed ones, which are impracticable, as I must have them all at once. In this dilemma it has ocurred to me that you will perhaps be kind enough to lend me your two volumed, double-columned edition and to send it us by railway. I will not detain it more than a few weeks.
Mr. Chapman writes me word that the "National Review" 590 is really to be started, and indeed Mr. Lewes has just had the Prospectus sent him which is supremely Martineauish. I am extremely well and jolly with abundance of work and Mr. Lewes is already the better for our delicious country walks and still more delicious home quietude. I hope you are all equally flourishing.
