My dear Miss Parkes
I too regretted that I happened to be out yesterday when you and Mrs. Parkes 16 were kind enough to call on me.
Another unfortunate coincidence is, that an evening party at Mr. Mackay's at which I have promised to be present, occurs on Saturday evening. But for this I should have looked forward with pleasure to spending the evening with you.
Mr. Chapman's evening parties have commenced now, and we all wish very much that you could be amongst us now and then. Can you not manage this? Monday is the day fixed on, and if you would accept so informal an invitation as this and come any Monday evening that you had no pleasanter engagement, you would be doing a kindness to others if not to yourself.
