Text: Maggs Brothers Catalogue 473 (Spring 1926), item 195.
I am sincerely obliged by the handsome gift you have sent me. I think I have read the Queen's Journal 721 with more sympathy because I am a woman of about the same age, and also have my personal happiness bound up in a dear husband whose loss would render my life 722 simply a series of social duties and private memories. . . .
I like that page in which the Queen prays for the very house which has sheltered her happily. On closing the book I felt that I had been following a thoroughly upright affectionate nature, and I thank you for giving me that healthy pleasure.
Mr. Lewes has just come back from a fortnight's trip to Bonn and Heidelberg to see some of the great scientific luminaries of those universities.
