Dear Alice
Your lovely flowers are blooming still and remind me every day of your kindness. Hence they have reminded me that on Sunday I was too absentminded to ask you 'e0 propos of the workwoman about whom you have taken trouble for your friends' sake -- whether she is one who would take her work home or one who expects always to work at the houses of her employers. If the latter, I must renounce her, because I have an objection to supernumeraries. They make buzzing noises in the rooms above and below us and distract our poor nerves.
I hope that this note will be in time to make the matter entirely unimportant -- I mean, to prevent your having said a word to the workwoman which will have to be retracted.
We have decided on a house for the summer. It is on Earlswood Common near Redhill, and we are likely to flit even before May is well out -- at the latest on the 1st of June. [The rest of the letter is lacking.]
