Since the man once cast the blame on the woman, I will for once again cast it on the man and tell you that the verdant folly of writing to you at Burlington House was committed by a Mr. Lewes's advice. He had a romantic idea that somebody lived there, very high and mighty, whom you were visiting. Else, I should have acted on what was my interpretation of your request and have gone to meet you there. . . .
Among the dresses which Mrs. Martin 236 has kindly spared me, there is nothing with the full front like yours and the agreeable bishop sleeve.
I cannot bear to have seemed for a moment sluggish and neglectful about answering a letter. That is not one of my vices.
