How shall I show my gratitude for your generous gift of Mr. Masson's [Milton]? 155 When I saw it advertised, I said inwardly, [I should like to have that, but will not indulge myself.] I could not dream that it would come to me, like many other of the best things in the world, without my doing anything for it.
Your publishing list is to me the most tempting I ever look at, and when one sees the books one finds them in a costume that soothes the eyes with its soberness and good taste.
We are only just settled at home for the winter. I hope that you and yours are quite well.
