I am experimenting in a story, 237 which I began without any very serious intention of carrying it out lengthily. It is a subject which has been recorded among my possible themes ever since I began to write fiction, but will probably take new shapes in the development. I am today at p. 44. I am reading Wolf's Prolegomena to Homer. 238 In the evening aloud, Wilhelm Meister again!
