My dear Lewes.
What can I do for you about cigars? If you liked that one I left with you, (which I think very mild though perhaps a little large,) I can send you a hundred of them, -- strictly commercial -- 4d apiece. I have a large parcel of unopened cigars, -- 12 hundred, -- of which you shall have a box on trial instead if you prefer them. They are of course 12 months younger. I think they are probably quite as good a cigar, but a little stronger. Would you like a box of each? I write as I was led to believe you were getting short of baccy.

You said a word as to the impossibility of inferring God's intentions with created things, from the observed habits of the creatures. Is this not a fair mode of argument for our own guidance. We know that there have been men who think it wrong to eat flesh; but may we not argue that we are intended to eat flesh, by seeing that certain animals do so, who from their nature cannot act against the Creators intentions?
But you may have cigars without answering all this.
