My dear Lewes.
There are two men just appointed to the Secretarys office, your son being one. The man who first comes to duty stands senior. Let your son present himself at once to Mr. Parkhurst 514 -- at whose table I am now writing. If he then wants a few days leave of absence he can get it, but it may [give] him one step in seniority.
I hear that he passed quite a first rate examination. He got the full numbers for general intelligence which is very unusual.
Very faithfully yours
Anthony Trollope.
