This illustration depicts Celia Brooke, Dorothea’s younger sister. Her “common sense” is shown in her simple attire and direct gaze, painting her as the more conventional, pragmatic sister. "Poor Dorothea compared with her, the innocent-looking Celia was knowing and worldly-wise; so much subtler is a human mind than the outside tissues which makea sort of blazonry or clock-face for it" (Book 1, Chapter 1).
