Mr. Raffles’ demise is imminently expected

He anxiously awaits Mr. Raffles death and ignores the medical advice given to help the old man, as he has blackmailed Bulstrode with his scandalous secrets. "And in the train of those images came their apology. [Bulstrode] could not but see the death of Raffles, and see in it his own deliverance. What was the removal of this wretched creature? He was impenitent-but were not public criminals impenitent? [Y]et the law decided on their fate" (Book 7, Chapter 70).
