'You, my child - are you / Halting and wavering?'

When finally meeting his daughter again, Zarca asks Fedalma whether she will take up the Gypsy cause and join him, or whether she is "halting and wavering" from her duty. Fedalma must decide whether she will turn away from her life as a rich Spaniard, and the wife of her beloved Don Silva to embrace her Gypsy heritage and follow them. (Book 1)
