'She held the door wide'

Eppie opens the door of the cottage at the knock of Godfrey Cass and Nancy Cass (née Lammeter) , who had come to offer Eppie a home with them. The couple portrays their offer as repayment for Dunstan’s crime against Silas Marner; in reality, however, Godfrey Cass had finally come to terms with his past and wanted to claim Eppie as his own.
