Description
Mordecai and his sister Mirah sit on two chairs beside each other, anxious about their father and his begging for money. Mordecai sits with a pillow behind his head and a blanket on his lap, signs of his declining health. Deronda enters the room and stands at the doorway. Deronda proceeds to tell Mordecai and Mirah of his Jewish heritage and the three bond over their shared purpose and kinship (Book 8, Chapter 63).
