Sidgwick, Henry (1838-1900)

A member of George Henry Lewes's circle of intellectuals, Henry Sidgwick was one of George Eliot’s favorite philosophers. Sidgwick was involved in various movements for women's education and taught at Cambridge for many years. With Sidgwick's encouragement, Eliot established the George Henry Lewes Studentship in Physiology at Cambridge, which Sidgwick served as a trustee on. Sidgwick was married to Eleanor Mildred Sidgwick.
