Whitefield, George, Bust of

Description

An ornament of Mr. Lyon's study, which is covered with green gauze because Esther can not bear its squint. George Whitefield (1714-70). Just such a bust of Whitefield stood in the staircase window of the Misses Franklin's school in Coventry where George Eliot was a pupil. Mr. Franklin was the original of Rufus Lyon. (See article in Our Times, June, 1881.) This bust still is in existence, and is now the property of Mr. Bernard Franklin, a grandson of Francis Franklin.
