Title

Bycliffe, Maurice Christian

Description

The representative of the family which claimed the Transome estate; Esther Lyon's father. When a prisoner of war in France he had married Annette Ledru. By exchanging names with Henry Scaddon, a fellow-prisoner whose exchange had been effected, he was able to return to England, leaving his wife to follow him. In England he instituted a suit against the Transomes, believing that the estate was legally his. During the progress of the suit he had been imprisoned as Henry Scaddon, and had died in prison, before his wife and infant daughter could reach him.
