Stinche (Real)

Stinche (Real),The largest prison in Florence, in which, after the scene in the Rucellai Gardens, where he is denied by Tito, Baldassarre Calvo is imprisoned. The old prison of the Stinche, which was demolished in the nineteenth century, stood on the present site of the Accademia Filarmonica and the Teatro Pagliano. It was built at the end of the thirteenth century, and took its name from the fact that prisoners taken at the siege of Castello delle Stinche were confined there in 1304
