Orcagna's (or Orgagna's) Loggia (Real)

Title

Orcagna's (or Orgagna's) Loggia (Real)

Description

Orcagna's (or Orgagna's) Loggia (Real),The spacious loggia on the Piazza della Signoria, Florence, in which the Franciscans and Dominicans were placed at the time of the Trial by Fire. Orgagna's Loggia is the beautiful arcade near the Palazzo Vecchio which is usually called the Loggia de' Lanzi (from the Swiss lancers posted there under Cosimo I), although the name Loggia dell' Orgagna is also used. Its earlier names were Loggia dei Signori or Loggia dei Priori; at the time of the Trial by Fire, it was called Loggia dei Signori. It was ordered by the General Council of Florence in 1356, and though perhaps designed by Orgagna, was not built until 1376-92, several years after Orgagna's death.
