Calimara, The (Real)

Calimara, The (Real),Street in Florence where Burchiello's barber shop was located. The Via Calimara (or Calimala), one of the most ancient of Florentine streets, leads from the site of the former Mercato Vecchio, now the modern Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, to the Via Porta Rossa. The residence and offices of the Guild of the Calimala (workers of foreign cloth) were in this street.
