"Red Rovier"

One of Mr. Macey's songs which had been a favourite with Squire Cass. This has been variously identified, but no one of the suggestions — songs entitled Red Rover by Neukomm(1833) , Thomson (1835), and Linley (c. 1840), the old Rover ballad Captain Ward, and Dibdin's Greenwich Pensioner —meets the test of both date and title.
