"Flaxen-Headed Ploughboy"

Squire Cass's favourite tune, which Solomon Macey plays at the New Year's dance. This is the once popular song "The Ploughboy", beginning: "The flaxen-headed cow-boy, as simple as may be… And next a merry ploughboy," etc. The words, by John O'Keefe, are included in his ballad-opera "The Farmer"; the music is by William Shield.
