Swing

Mr. Stelling impresses Mr. Tulliver by telling him several stories about "Swing". "Captain Swing " was the name signed to various threatening letters which in 1830 and shortly thereafter were written to farmers who were beginning to use agricultural machinery. The "Swing" letters preceded cases of incendiarism or other outrages, principally against users of agricultural machinery.
