Whittlecombe,Parish near Shepperton, of which Mr. Pugh is curate. In the lists of originals prepared at Nuneaton after the publication of Scenes of Clerical Life, the original of Whittlecombe was given as Stockingford. (See Olcott, George Eliot, p. 15.)
