Oldinport, Mr.

The squire of Shepperton parish who helps Amos Barton when he is in need of money. The original of Mr. Oldinport was the Right Honourable Charle Newdigate Newdegate, Member of Parliament from Warwickshire 1843-84. (See Olcott, George Eliot, pp. 14, 24.)
