Title

Tomlinson, Mr.

Description

Rich miller at Milby; one of Lawyer Dempster's chief admirers. "Mr. Tomlinson . . . often said his father had given him 'no eddication, and he didn't care who knowed it; he could buy up most o' th' eddicated men he'd ever come across '." In the lists of originals prepared in Nuneaton, after the publication of Scenes of Clerical Life, a Mr. Hinks was given as the original of Mr. Tomlinson. (See Olcoot, George Eliot, p. 16.)
